I’m sure we all love the feeling of saving money and buying something new with it. Whether it be something small, like a drink at the bar, or something massive, like a down-payment for your first home, spending money is fun. But is it still fun when you break down every aspect of a purchase? Especially when it’s a big purchase over $200? An excellent question we’ll answer with the journey I took when purchasing my first Beyblade X products for my YouTube channel.

For some context, at the time of purchase, Beyblade X was still new and only being produced and sold in Japan and neighboring countries. If you wanted to get it in the US, you had to buy it from Japanese vendors like Amazon JP, Zenmarket, Suru-gaya, etc., or from an American vendor like Mall of Beys, Beys and Bricks, Beyblade Premier, etc. But whichever option you chose, you still had to pay extra for either international shipping fees or vendor fees. A starter pack was ~$20, a stadium set was ~$100, and booster packs and accessories were around ~$15, depending on the vendor and if you could use discount codes.

Since I was starting to get into the Beyblade scene on YouTube, having the new Beyblade X products would draw attention to it faster. My initial problem that I needed to solve was getting Beyblade X products. In particular, I needed at least four beyblade tops, one of each of the four types, a stadium, a winder launcher and string launcher, and two launcher grips in order to start making content. The monetary budget was not a concern here. Since I had never ordered Beyblades internationally before, I wasn’t sure where to start. So I looked at YouTube.

Since there is an established Beyblade scene on YouTube, plenty of creators had links and preferred stores where you could purchase Beyblade X products. The two places I ordered from were Zenmarket and Beys and Bricks. While Beys and Bricks was quick and easy to navigate, delivering my orders in good time, Zenmarket was a different story. I first had to calculate the JPY price in USD, then transfer that amount into Zenmarket. From there, I would choose what items I wanted to buy, and they would buy them with the money I loaded. After that, the products were shipped to their warehouse. However, they wouldn’t be shipped until I paid the shipping fee. So once I paid for that, it took a little over two weeks for the products to arrive. It was not the greatest experience overall since I was in need of the products asap. But at least I was able to receive everything. In total, I had purchased four starter packs, two booster packs, an accessory pack, and a stadium set. The total cost was approximately $200.

Once I had everything in my hands, I made a video showing my first reactions and battles with the new Beyblades. It was a fun video to make, and it did really well for how big my channel was at the time. But the real question is: Was the purchase worthwhile and worth the price? The answer is an emphatic yes!

Since my first purchases, I have continued to purchase Beyblade X products. Alongside making Beyblade X videos on my channel, I’ve also made some short-form content and live-streamed various Beyblade X activities. The cumulative outcome of this content has been 438 subscribers and counting, along with tens of thousands of views and a few hundred watch hours. The channel has been growing well, and I’ve attracted the attention of other online Beyblade creators as well.

While expensive, this purchase was worth every penny. I’ve been able to grow a following and make many new friends online through becoming a Beyblade X content creator. While I am still working my way to making a return on the purchase, the pathway to that goal is set and paved. All I have to do is keep moving forward with my content.

We’ve broken down the buying process for my first steps into Beyblade X. It was definitely a roller coaster ride—one I didn’t exaggerate as much as it actually was. At the end of it, the purchase put me in an advantageous position. I was able to start growing a community online quickly. It expanded my social circles and allowed me to take part in several fun and lucrative endeavors with like-minded and similar-interest-focused people and creators. It was a fun ride through and through.
